Virat Kohli was once again involved in a run out. This time Glenn Maxwell became the victim as he attempted a quick single which was not available. After Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)’s 13-run win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on May 4, Maxwell had a hilarious complaint for former skipper Kohli in front their Director of Cricket, Mike Hesson.
"I cannot bat with you, you run too fast. You hit ones and twos, I don't," Maxwell said to Kohli as the latter did not look amused.
In the ninth over of RCB's innings, Kohli came down the track and gave Ravindra Jadeja's delivery a gentle push. Kohli took a few steps and hesitated. Then, he went through with it. The slight hesitation between the two led to Maxwell's run out as Robin Uthappa's throw was spot on and MS Dhoni did not take much time to take the bails off in a flash.
Maxwell got out for a single-digit score. Afterwards, Kohli could not do more damage either and got bowled by Moeen Ali in the next over for a score of 30 from 33 deliveries.
However, Maxwell made up for it with his bowling in the middle overs. He took the crucial wickets of Robin Uthappa and Ambati Rayudu. He bowled economically as well and conceded 22 runs from his quota of four overs which helped RCB increase the required run rate for CSK.
"I knew that the conditions would need a few more overs of finger spin. So, with the conditions the way they were, I was able to get out there for a few hours and just be another option, I suppose, for Faf to use and just tried to bowl fast off-spin, pitched on the stumps and hopefully let them make the mistakes. Very fortunate to get two right-handers out, when the plan was to bowl to lefties," the 33-year-old added.
Maxwell has not been consistent in the ongoing season. The hard-hitting batter has scored 160 runs from eight games at an average of 22.86. However, his strike rate is 175.82 which is way higher than the previous season. Earlier, he missed a few matches because of Cricket Australia's (CA) rule for their contracted players while the Australian team is playing international cricket.
