India star leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal walked down the memory lane and opened up on an untoward incident when he was part of five-time champions Mumbai Indians back in IPL 2013.
In a conversation with Rajasthan Royals' teammates Ravichandran Ashwin and Karun Nair, Chahal recalled an incident which involved a drunk player who grabbed hold of him during a post-match celebration and hanged him from a 15th floor of their hotel balcony.
“I never told this story. From today, everyone will know. I never shared this,” he began. “This dates back to 2013 when I was with Mumbai Indians, we had a match in Bangalore. There was a get-together after that,” Chahal said.
“So there was a player who was very drunk. I won’t say his name. He was very drunk, he was looking at me for a long time and he just called me and he took me outside and hung me on the balcony and my hands were like this [gestures].”
“Had I lost my grip, I was on the 15th floor… Suddenly many people who were there came and handled the situation. I kind of fainted, they gave me water. Then I realized how responsible we need to be when we go anywhere. So this was one incident where I felt I had a narrow escape. Had there been the slightest of memories, I would’ve fallen down,” he revealed.
Earlier in the year, on a podcast published by his earlier team Royal Challengers Bangalore, Chahal had recounted an episode from 2011, talking about how his then Mumbai team-mates, James Franklin and Andrew Symonds, had tied him up, taped his mouth, left him in a room and forgot about him for a whole night.
Sehwag wants Chahal to name the player
Meanwhile, former India explosive batter Virender Sehwag has raised the voice of a major section of cricket fans who urged Yuzvendra Chahal to name the player who bullied him during a post-match Indian Premier League (IPL) party in 2013. Sehwag said the spine-chilling incident can't be treated as fun and it's important to know what action was taken against the player in question.
Sehwag took to social media and said it's important to expose the identity of the player.
"Important to reveal name of player who as per Chahal did this to him in a drunk state. If true, this cannot be treated as fun, important to know what happened and what action was taken considering the seriousness of this," Sehwag said in his post.
