IPL 2022 Auction: 2008 IPL-winner Rajasthan Royals splurge crores on Boult, Hetmyer, Padikkal & Ashwin

The winners of the inaugural season of Indian Premier League (IPL) had a good outing in the first day of the mega auction as they picked eight players including two overseas players. On the second day of the mega IPL auction, they signed Indian player Navdeep Saini for Rs 2.6 crore. 

 

Signed these players for IPL 2022

Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was their first pick for Rs 5 crore. Ashwin's base price at the IPL 2022 mega auction was Rs 2 crore. It will be interesting to see Ashwin and Jos Buttler play for the same team after the Mankad controversy. Their second signing of the day one of the mega auction was New Zealand pacer Trent Boult. The left-handed pacer was signed for Rs 8 crore. 

 

Their other big picks of the day were West Indies batter Shimron Hetmyer (Rs 8.5 crore), opener Devdutt Padikkal (Rs 7.75 crore), fast bowler Prasidh Krishna (Rs 10 crore) and leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal (Rs 6.5 crore). They got back uncapped all-rounder Riyan Parag for Rs 3.8 crore. Uncapped spinner KC Cariappa also made his way into the franchise for Rs 30 lakh.

Retained players for IPL 2022
RR retained three players ahead of the IPL 2022 auction –  Sanju Samson (Rs 14 crore), Yashasvi Jaiswal (Rs 4 crore) and Jos Buttler (Rs 10 crore). 

 

Samson has scored 3068 runs in 121 matches in his IPL career and will lead the Rajasthan Royals franchise in the 15th edition of IPL. Yashasvi, on the other hand, scored 289 runs in 13 matches and England's Jos Buttler has so far amassed 1968 runs in 65 matches.

 

Royals had Rs 62 crore left in their purse prior to the mega auction for the IPL 2022. Former Sri Lanka wicketkeeper-batsman Kumar Sangakkara will be seen as the Director of Cricket for the Rajasthan Royals team.
