The two-time Indian Premier League's (IPL) champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) kicked off the second day of the league's mega auction with the purchase of Indian Test specialist Ajinkya Rahane at his base price of INR 1 crore. Rahane used to represent the Delhi-based franchise Delhi Capitals earlier.
Rahane who returned to Ranji Trophy after a form slump in the white-ball format. However he remains a potential option in the IPL due to the ability to anchor an innings as well as make the most of the powerplay.
KKR then went big for all-rounders Liam Livingstone and Krishnappa Gowtham but only upto a certain limit before leaving both of them.
Apart from Rahane, KKR had splurged big bucks on Shreyas Iyer and Nitish Rana on Day 1 of the auction while Iyer was contracted for INR 12.25 crore, Rana was bought for INR 8 crore.
India's another Test specialist, Cheteshwar Pujara, has remained unsold so far. Earlier, Pujara was roped in by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at his base price of 50 lac. The 33-year-old returned to the cash-rich Twenty20 league after seven years — the last time he played was for Kings XI Punjab in 2014.
