IPL 2022 Auction: India's U-19 champion skipper Yash Dhull fetches mere 50 lakhs from Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals (DC) roped in Yash Dhull for just INR 50 lakhs in the ongoing Indian Premier League's (IPL), who led India to record fifth title as they defeated England in the Under-19 World Cup summit clash. He also scored a match-winning hundred in the semifinal of the tournament and also led the way from the front.

After the Under-19 glory, skipper Yash was among the big names from the Indian colts' list and was expected to get a decent bidding in the auction but the lowly bid for such a young talent came down as a surprise for everyone.

Yash is set to make his debut in the Ranji Trophy this season for Delhi and in the same time frame, he will likely represent DC as well in the IPL.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) gave DC a fight initially before backing out once the bid hit INR 50 lakh. Yash’s base price was set as INR 20 lakhs. Delhi started the bid at INR 20 lakhs. Surprisingly no franchise barring Delhi was willing to take Yash in their team. When IPL auctioneer, Charu Sharma was about to announce ‘sold’ for Yash at INR 20 lakhs, PBKS came into action and joined the bid at INR 25 lakhs.

Gradually it started increasing by INR 5 lakhs at each bid, and both the teams were participating to get the U-19 skipper. It seemed that both the team will engage in a tussle by not letting him go but after Delhi reached the mark of INR 40 lakhs, Punjab seemed disinterested.

It looked like a clean sweep for Delhi there, but Punjab still went ahead and bid for INR 45 lakhs. Delhi didn’t think once and raised the bidding to INR 50 lakhs. Beyond INR 50 lakhs, Punjab didn’t consider going ahead and letting Delhi have Yash in their team.

Dhull had already revealed that he intends to play for the senior national team within 18 months and this would be the perfect start.

The Delhi-based franchise also bagged uncapped all-rounders Ripal Patel for INR 20 lakhs and Lalit Yadav for INR 65 lakhs.

Meanwhile, it was a reunion for David Warner and Delhi Capitals as the franchise bought the Australian opener for ₹6.25 crore in the IPL Mega Auction on Saturday (February 12). One of the marquee players in the auction list, Warner attracted bids from Capitals and the Chennai Super Kings before the franchise from Delhi eventually succeeded to secure his services.
