Delhi Capitals (DC) lost to Mumbai Indians (MI) in their last Indian Premier League (IPL) game in what was a must-win fixture for the side, gifting Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) the final spot in the playoffs. It was a topsy-turvy game that saw DC have control over the proceedings, but individual errors and lack of judgment turned the game in the favour of their opponents.
Prior to the penultimate match of the season between DC and MI, Gujarat Titans (GT), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) were the three other franchises to qualify for the playoffs ahead of RCB. The race reached the very end of the tournament with just a game left to the finish of the group stage.
Gujarat topped the group with a brilliant 20 points, winning 10 games and losing 4. Meanwhile, LSG and RR both finish the league stage with 18 points under their belt, but RR's superior run rate of 0.298 gave them second place. RCB were the fourth team to qualify, with a below-par run rate of -0.253.
