Eight years ago, the West Indies' star wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran was himself involved in a car accident. He was hospitalised and it took him six long months before he was able to walk again and resume playing cricket again. The star southpaw, who is playing for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), knows what Rishabh Pant is going through.
Pant was involved in a brutal car accident which took place last year in December. It was a lucky escape for him as his car had caught fire after crashing into a divider on the Delhi-Dehradun highway. The 25-year-old suffered multiple injuries and is currently in the recovery mode.
Pant who is the regular skipper Delhi Capital (DC) in the IPL but post his accident which ruled him out of the glitzy league, David Warner was named as his replacement. Meanwhile, Pooran is in constant touch with Rishabh who is set to miss the whole of 2023's cricket action.
“It’s very challenging. It’s one where no one understands. Sometimes, I can remember… I have been chatting with Rishabh obviously. Both of us have a really good relationship. But there are times when you go into a place where you’re very depressed, and frustrated, because you want the healing process to happen so fast. But it’s difficult,” said Pooran ahead of the Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) clash with Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Saturday, April 15.
Lucknow's wicket-keeper also mentioned that the recovery could take longer than expected and the individual should be patient enough through it. Pooran shared his insight on how he coped during low phases and said, "Sometimes you don’t see progress. In life, you want to see progress, you want it to happen so fast, but it doesn’t happen the whole time. It’s very challenging, but need to believe in yourself.”
“Need to believe that whatever happened, happened for a reason. Can’t question it, because you won’t get an answer. You need to believe in your God as well. Have faith in yourself, have faith in your hard work,” Pooran concluded.
