‘Warner needs to look in the mirror…’: Harbhajan blasts DC skipper, blames him for DC's plight in IPL 2023

Delhi Capitals' (DC) plight in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) is just not ending as they continue to wobble at the bottom of the points table. David Warner-led DC have just notched up two wins so far in a total of eight matches they have played in the sixteenth edition of the glitzy league. Many cricket pundits thinks Warner's captaincy could be behind DC's horror show in the IPL 2023 as only miracle can spur them to the playoffs now, which is highly unlikely. DC suffered their latest jolt when Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) rocked them by nine runs at the Arun Jaitley stadium on Saturday (April 29).

Meanwhile, India's legendary spinner Harbhajan launched a scathing attack on Warner and blamed him for DC woes. While blasting Warner, the former India's star player said that DC would've lost by 50 runs had their skipper played 50 balls as it would have been a sheer waste. On his YouTube channel, Harbhajan said that it's impossible for DC to make a comeback in the IPL 2023 from this position.

"I don't think they can make a comeback, and the entire reason for that is captain. He didn't lead the side well, and then his form was an issue. It has been very disappointing. Warner was dismissed earlier today (vs SRH), which is why Delhi came so close. If he had played 50 balls, that would've been 50 balls wasted and DC would've lost by 50 runs," Harbhajan said.

Harbhajan also took a pot shot at Warner's strike-rate. Although, Warner has been scoring runs in IPL 2023 and is also among the top run-getters but the rate he has been amassing runs has put him under scanner. Warner has scored 306 runs in eight matches at an average of 38.5 and at a strike-rate of 118.60.

"Even now, when he comes to presentations, he says about other players' mistakes. But what have you done? You didn't show any intent; you scored 300+ runs but look at your strike rate. Warner hasn't really done justice to his stature this year. His 300 runs are of no use to DC. Warner needs to look in the mirror if he wants to find a reason for DC being at the bottom," Harbhajan added.

In the same breathe, Harbhajan went on to say that DC's captaincy should be handed over to Axar Patel.

If DC have to qualify for the playoffs, they need to win almost all the matches in their last 6 ties.
