IPL 2023: 'Don't give myself enough credit because I am under a lot of stress' — Virat Kohli after his impressive ton vs SRH

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) hero on Thursday (May 19) night, Virat Kohli, said that he does not give himself enough credit despite scoring six tons in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and puts himself under a lot of stress because of this. Kohli played a man-of-the-match innings against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for his 63-ball 100 to beat them by eight wickets and remain in contention for a fourth successive playoff spot.

In doing so, the star batter moved to No.4 on the Orange Cap standings with his first IPL century since 2019. Kohli and Chris Gayle now lead the list for most centuries in the history of the IPL. This was also Kohli's second hundred in a winning chase in the IPL.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Kohli said it was a special hundred because of the score that they were chasing on a tricky pitch. Kohli and his opening partner Faf du Plessis were involved in a 172-run opening stand, but the former RCB skipper did not expect to get the kind of start that they did.

"It (the hundred) was quite special considering where we are placed in the points table and the magnitude of the game. I thought Hyderabad got a very good score. The ball was gripping in between overs as well. We wanted a good, solid start but didn't expect to be 172 without loss. But that's how well I and Faf have played this season. He is at a different level.

"I have had a quiet couple of games in the last few but the way I was hitting the ball in the nets, it wasn't transitioning in the last 2-3 games. So I wanted to make an impact and my intent from ball one was to go after the bowlers... something that I have done through the season. There was a little bit of dip but I wanted to pick the game from my time," Kohli told the broadcasters after the match.

"I was telling the boys the way I am looked at as an IPL player as well. it's like 'he's fine few impact knocks.' This is my 6th IPL hundred. I don't give myself enough credit for it because I am under a lot of stress already. I don't care what anyone says on the outside because that is their opinion," he added.
