Mumbai Indians (MI) might have had a chance to reach the Indian Premier League (IPL) final but for the impressive bowling of veteran Gujarat Titans (GT) pacer Mohit Sharma, whose fifer led his team to a win in Qualifier 2. One of the main batters in their run chase was Suryakumar Yadav, but he was Mohit's first victim on the night.

After Mohit took his wicket, Suryakumar Yadav looked heartbroken. He was clean-bowled by the 24-year-old. The wicket fell on the third ball of the 15th over of MI's chase of GT's 234. Mr. 360 had already hit the pacer for a six and was looking for another one but missed a leg-side ball which went straight onto his pads and then crashed into the leg stump.

His innings concluded at 61 off just 38 balls, including seven fours and two sixes.

Despite this, a positive for the batter was that he moved to second on the list for the most runs by an MI batter. He is also the only batter after Sachin Tendulkar to hit more than 600 runs in a season for MI.

MOST RUNS FOR MI IN AN IPL SEASON
618 - Sachin Tendulkar (2010)
605 - Suryakumar Yadav (2023)
553 - Sachin Tendulkar (2011)
540 - Lendl Simmons (2015)
538 - Rohit Sharma (2013)

Earlier, Courtesy Shubman Gill's 129, GT set a massive target of 234 for MI. The task proved too much for Rohit Sharma's team, who were bundled out for 171 in 18.2 overs.

Introduced into the attack in the 15th over, Sharma struck immediately to send Suryakumar back to the pavilion. The 35-year-old scored 61 runs from 38 balls including seven fours and two sixes.

In the same over, Kishan's concussion substitute Vishnu Vinod handed an easy catch to Pandya as he got out for a single-digit score.

The right-arm medium pacer ended with a brilliant fifer in 2.2 overs and gave away a meagre 10 runs. Mohit got two wickets in his second over and ended MI's innings in the penultimate over to complete his maiden IPL fifer.
