Not one or two but three mystery spinners of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) created a ruckus at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday, April 6. The KKR spin department now has veterans Sunil Narine and Varun Chakraborty, and young starlet Suyash Sharma, who made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut in KKR's emphatic victory over the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
The trio spun mazes around the RCB batters and took all their important wickets, including those of match-winners like Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik. The spinners ensured that KKR successfully defended their target of 205 runs, dismissing the team for just 123 runs.
These three spinners together took a total of nine wickets in an innings, creating a new record which has never been done before in the history of the league!

The experienced Sunil Narine took two wickets in his 150th match for KKR and in the IPL. But the real stars with the ball were Varun Chakravarthy, who took four wickets and 19-year-old Suyash Sharma, who took three wickets to destroy the RCB middle-order. This is the first time in the 16 editions of the IPL that the spinners have taken nine out of 10 wickets in one innings.
In total, spinners took 12 wickets in both innings, another record on this ground. This is also a new record in the IPL.
