10 balls, 7 runs and 5 wickets: Mumbai Indians' pacers wreak havoc as Delhi Capitals throw away momentum in epic collapse

Mumbai Indians (MI) were staring at a big total to chase down as Delhi Capitals (DC) all-rounder Axar Patel played aggressor and skipper David Warner was the anchor during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match on Tuesday, April 11, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Axar scored 54 off 25 and Warner added 51 off 47 balls but the rest of the team once again collapsed as the MI bowlers dismissed the home side for just 172 runs.

The DC score was 165/5 when Jason Behrendorff came to bowl the 19th over of the match — his final over in this game. He then got the much-needed wicket of Axar, who flicked the ball towards deep square but landed straight in the hands of Arshad Khan. It was a disappointing end to an exciting innings by Axar, who smashed the ball at a rate of 216 with 4 fours and 5 sixes to his name.

Two balls later, the Australian added the scalp of David Warner to his name after his countryman failed to read a Slower leg cutter and top-edged the ball to the short third fielder and yet another Australian in Riley Meredith.

The next ball was another wicket for MI, with Nehal Wadhera getting the run-out of Kuldeep Yadav, who pushed the ball to the leg side and tried a risky single which did not come off at all.

The fans of the home team sitting in the stadium would have hoped to end a tough few balls by ensuring that their team went over the line but it was not to be. A ball after the Kuldeep run-out, Behrendorff got his third and final wicket of the match to send the young Abishek Porel back to the pavilion. Porel tried to go for the big one but misjudged the ball and ended up hitting it straight to Cameron Green.

At the end of the 19th over, DC were on 166/9, having started the over on 165 runs. In the end, Meredith got the final wicket of the match to nail the yorker and knock the stumps off to send Anrich Nortje back to the pavilion and complete what ended up as a very unlikely comeback into the match.
