IPL 2023: One match and three genuine contenders, who will win the coveted Purple Cap? Check complete list

After 73 entertaining contests, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 has paved the way for two teams - Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans - to fight for the prestigious crown. Led by their 'messiah' MS Dhoni, the four-time champions will cross swords against Hardik Pandya's men, who are the defending champions and are vying to secure consecutive titles. The box office match will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedad on Mat 28 (Sunday).

With just one game remaining in the competition, the Orange Cap winner has been decided as Shubman Gill will take home the prestigious crown. The race for Purple Cap has gone down to the wire with three Gujarat Titans bowlers - Mohammed Shami, Rashid Khan and Mohit Sharma - in the hunt to win the crown.

Let's take a look at the list of leading-wicket takers in IPL 2023:

1. Mohammed Shami: Gujarat Titans' right-arm fast bowler currently leads the chart with 28 wickets in 16 matches at an average of 17.57.

2. Rashid Khan: Gujarat Titans' leg-spinner is right behind his teammate Shami with 27 wickets in 16 matches at an average of 18.81.

3. Mohit Sharma: With a five-wicket haul in Qualifier 2, the Gujarat pacer climbed to third place. Mohit has bagged 24 wickets in 13 matches at an average of 13.54.

4. Piyush Chawla: Mumbai Indians' leg-spinner finished the tournament with 22 wickets in 16 matches with an average of 22.50 with the ball.

5. Yuzvendra Chahal: Rajasthan Royals' leg-spinner finished the tournament with 21 wickets in 14 matches. He averaged 20.57 with the ball.

6. Tushar Deshpande: Chennai Super Kings pacer has bagged 21 wickets in 15 matches at an average of 24.19. He will have a chance to add to his tally when in the final but the chance of him winning the Purple Cap is close to negligible.
