For the first time since 2018, the Indian Premier League (IPL) will open with a special ceremony ahead of the curtain raiser between the Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that prominent actors Tamannaah Bhatia and Rashmika Mandanna, and star singer Arijit Singh will perform in the Opening Ceremony. There are also chances of a special laser show at the Narendra Modi Stadium, which is also the largest cricket stadium in the world.
Over the years, the IPL opening ceremony has been a grand affair. Some big names to have performed at the IPL opening ceremony include Salman Khan, Pitbull, Akon, Shah Rukh Khan, Shriya Saran, and Katrina Kaif.

In 2019, instead of having an opening ceremony, the IPL Governing Council and the BCCI decided to cancel the event and donate the funds to the families of the CRPF personnel killed on February 14, 2019, in Pulwama. After that, the Covid-19 Pandemic kept fans out of the stadiums for 2 seasons before the tournament moved back to India but without an opening ceremony.
This season is even more special because the IPL will return to a home-and-away format after three years. The captains of all ten IPL franchises will not be able to attend the opening ceremony but all of the captains will gather in Ahmedabad on Wednesday for a mandatory captain's meeting.
