Delhi Capitals suffered their successive defeats in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), this time at the hands of Gujarat Titans (GT) on Tuesday (April 4). Hardik Pandya-led GT defeated David Warner's DC by six wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi to notch up their second victory on the trot in the sixteenth season of the glitzy league. The hero of the match was Sai Sudarshan, who hammered a brilliant 62 off 48 to help the defending champions overhaul 163-run target with 11 balls to spare. With their successive win, GT continue to occupy top spot in the points table. They won their opening match against MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings. Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore are second and third on the table with two points each. Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants, Punjab Kings and CSK grab the fourth, fifth and sixth spots respectively.
While KKR occupy seventh place, DC after back-to-back defeats are eighth in the standings followed by Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad in ninth and tenth spot respectively.
Orange Cap Holder
CSK's star opener Ruturaj Gaikwad continues to don the conveted Orange Cap. He hammered fifties on both the matches that he played in IPL 2023. Gaikwad now has 149 runs from two matches at an average of 14.5 and a strike-rate of 183.9. Gaikwad is followed by LSG opener Kyle Mayers, who also clobbered back-to-back half centuries in IPL 2023 and is second on the run-getters’ list with 126 runs at a strike-rate of 210.
Meanwhile, despite DC's dismal show in the IPL 2023 so far, their skipper David Warner stormed into top-3 in the most run getter's list. After first match's fifty against LSG, he scored 37 off 32 to notch 93 runs in two matches with a strike rate of 116.25.
MI's young gun Tilak Varma has slipped to fourth on the Orange Cap list. He cracked a blistering 84 not out against RCB to turn heads in the IPL 2023. The latest entrant in the top 5 list is GT's batting sensation Sai Sudarshan, who played a crucial knock of 62 off 48 balls to guide his team to victory over DC. He has played two matches and has notched up 84 runs to sit fifth in the standings.
