The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is alive and kicking. A total of 38 matches have been played in IPL 2023 and the franchises involved have provided immense entertainment to their loyal supporters. After 29 days of action in the cash-rich tournament, all the teams are gearing up for the business end of the competition.
Friday night proved to be a run fest as the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) registered the second-highest score in the Indian Premier League (IPL), beating Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 56 runs, the perfect way to come back from their loss at the hands of the Gujarat Titans (GT) in their last match.
Let's take a closer look at IPL 2023 points table:
1. Rajasthan Royals: Sanju Samson's side jumped to the top of the points table with five wins and three defeats in eight matches played thus far. The Royals have earned 10 points with an NNR of 0.939.
2. Lucknow Super Giants: KL Rahul's men began their season on the right note as they trounced Delhi Capitals but lost their second game against the Super Kings. They won two consecutive matches from thereon before facing a defeat against Punjab Kings. LSG then went on to win and lose another game. The win on Friday means that the Super Giants have 10 points in eight matches with an NRR of 0.841.
3. Gujarat Titans: The defending champions registered back-to-back wins to begin their season but lost to KKR. They bounced back with another close-fought game but lost again. They are now on a two-game win streak and currently sit in third place on the points table with 10 points after LSG's win.
4. Chennai Super Kings: The Men in Yellow dropped to fourth, below RR and GT after LSG's win. They now have five wins in eight matches played. They have a Net Run Rate (NRR) of 0.376 and 10 points to their name.
5. Royal Challengers Bangalore: The Red Army has four wins in eight matches this season so far. With an NRR of -0.139 and eight points, RCB are currently fifth in the standings.
6. Punjab Kings: The Punjab-based franchise has four wins in seven matches played. They now have eight points with an NRR of -0.162.
7. Kolkata Knight Riders: In eight matches played, KKR have lost five games and managed to win just three contests. They are in the seventh spot with an NRR of -0.027.
8. Mumbai Indians: Rohit Sharma's men started their campaign with successive defeats but they won three consecutive matches before losing two consecutive matches again. They have an NRR of -0.620 with six points in seven matches.
9. Sunrisers Hyderabad: The Orange Army are rooted to ninth in the standings. They have four points with an NRR of -0.725 in seven matches played.
10. Delhi Capitals: David Warner's team is at the bottom of the points table but are back on track with consecutive wins after five straight losses. They have an NRR of -0.961.
