IPL 2023 Purple Cap: Arshdeep Singh dethrones Mohammed Siraj after mindblowing spell against Mumbai Indians

The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is alive and kicking. A total of 31 matches have been played in IPL 2023 and the franchises involved have provided immense entertainment to their loyal supporters. After 23 days of action in the cash-rich tournament, all teams are gearing up for the business end of the competition. Punjab Kings won two crucial points away from home after registering a fantastic win against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on April 22 (Saturday).

When it comes to the race for Purple Cap, Punjab Kings' premier pacer Arshdeep Singh dethroned Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) paceman Mohammed Siraj from the top after a stellar spell of bowling against the Mumbai Indians.

Let's take a look at the leading wicket-takers in IPL 2023 so far:

1. Arshdeep Singh: The left-arm medium pacer has bagged 13 wickets in seven matches in the competition so far. Arshdeep averages 15.69 with the ball.

2. Mohammed Siraj: The right-arm fast bowler has bagged 12 wickets in six matches in the tournament this season. Siraj averages 13.42 with the ball.

3. Rashid Khan: The Gujarat Titans leg-spinner has accounted for 12 wickets in six matches and is third on the highest wicket-takers list.

4. Mark Wood: Lucknow Super Giants' overseas pacer has started the tournament in sublime form. Wood has 11 wickets in four matches. The right-arm pacer has accounted for one five-wicket haul as well.

5. Yuzvendra Chahal: Rajasthan Royals' leg-spinner has bagged 11 wickets in six matches. Chahal has accounted for one four-wicket haul in the competition this year.

6. Mohammed Shami: Gujarat Titans' premier pacer has bagged 10 wickets in six matches and currently occupies sixth place in the points table.

7. Tushar Deshpande: CSK's right-arm pacer has 10 wickets in six matches. The young pacer has an average of 23.50 with the ball.
