IPL 2023 Purple Cap: Battle of leg-spinners intensifies with Rashid Khan leading the race, Chahal and Chawla right behind

The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is alive and kicking. A total of 59 matches have been played so far in IPL 2023 while the franchises involved have provided immense entertainment to their loyal supporters. After more than a month of action in the cash-rich tournament, all the teams are gearing up for the business end of the competition. On May 13 (Saturday), Lucknow Super Giants and Punjab Kings bagged two crucial points each after winning their respective matches against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals.

When it comes to the race for Purple Cap, Gujarat Titans' leg-spinner Rashid Khan leads the list which dominated by wrist spinners.

Let's take a look at the leading wicket-takers of IPL 2023 so far:

1. Rashid Khan: Gujarat Titans' leg-spinner has 23 wickets in 12 matches at an average of 16.78.

2. Yuzvendra Chahal: Rajasthan Royals' leg-spinner has accounted for 21 wickets in 12 matches at an average of 18.74.

3. Piyush Chawla: Mumbai Indians' leg-spinner has bagged 19 wickets in 12 matches with an average of 18.79 with the ball.

4. Mohammed Shami: Gujarat Titans' right-arm fast bowler has 19 wickets in 12 matches at an average of 19.16.

5. Tushar Deshpande: CSK's right-arm pacer has 19 wickets in 12 matches and currently sits at the top of the leading wicket-takers list. The young pacer has an average of 21.79.

6. Varun Chakaravarthy: Kolkata Knight Riders' mystery spinner jumped to fifth place after taking his tally to 17 wickets in 12 matches.

7. Ravindra Jadeja: The left-arm spinner has 16 wickets in 12 matches at an average of 19.19.

8. Arshdeep Singh: The left-arm medium pacer has bagged 16 wickets in 12 matches in the competition so far. Arshdeep averages 27 with the ball.
