IPL 2023 Purple Cap: Three leg-spinners in top 5 but overseas express pacer occupies pole position in leading wicket-takers list

The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is alive and kicking. A total of 21 matches have been played in IPL 2023 and the franchises involved have provided immense entertainment to their loyal supporters. After 16 days of action in the cash-rich tournament, all teams are gearing up for the business end of the competition. Four teams are currently tied on six points while last year's runners-up Rajasthan Royals are in pole position.

On April 15 (Saturday), the cash-rich tournament witnessed two matches. In the first game, Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Delhi Capitals while in the second match, Punjab Kings downed Lucknow Super Giants in a close encounter. When it comes to the race for Purple Cap, Lucknow Super Giants Mark Wood leads the pack while three spinners are on the Englishman's tail.

Let's take a closer at the top 5 wicket-takers in IPL 2023:

1. Mark Wood: Lucknow Super Giants' overseas pacer has started the tournament in sublime form. Wood has 11 wickets in four matches. The right-arm pacer has accounted for one five-wicket haul as well.

2. Yuzvendra Chahal: Rajasthan Royals' leg-spinner has bagged 10 wickets in four matches. Chahal has accounted for one four-wicket haul in the competition this year.

3. Rashid Khan: The Gujarat Titans leg-spinner has accounted for nine wickets in four matches and is third on the highest wicket-takers list.

4. Ravi Bishnoi: Lucknow Super Giants leg-spinner has bagged eight wickets in five matches. The young wrist spinner has been a revelation for the Lucknow-based franchise this season so far.

5. Arshdeep Singh: Punjab Kings' left-arm seamer has bagged eight wickets in five matches so far this season and he completes the top five leading wicket-takers list.
