Over the years, the brotherhood between former India skippers MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli is quite known. In a recent video of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper in the dressing room, Dhoni referenced Kohli's batting technique and used it for giving tips to his players after their win over the Mumbai Indians (MI) on Saturday, May 6.
“Virat doesn’t play the first ball like this. It is always here,” the 41-year-old was heard saying in the video that was doing the rounds on social media.
In the match on Saturday, CSK beat MI by 6 wickets at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on May 6. MI’s batting faltered and failed to put up a fighting total as CSK chased down the target of 140 with 14 balls to spare.
Earlier, Ruturaj Gaikwad (30) and Devon Conway (44) got CSK off to a good start. For MI, Jofra Archer was not impressive with the new ball either.
The hero of the match was CSK's star bowler Matheesha Pathirana, who was exceptional in the slog overs. He got the wicket of Wadhera in the 18th over. The southpaw scored 64 runs from 51 balls including eight fours and one six. In the penultimate over, Deshpande lured Tim David into a big shot. David ended up getting caught at long-off. In the final over, Pathirana conceded just five runs and got the wickets of Arshad Khan and Tristan Stubbs. MI managed to post a below-par total of 139/8.
In relation to Pathirana, MS Dhoni said, "I feel he should not play red-ball cricket, not even get close to it, he can play only ICC tournaments. He is young and he would be a great asset for Sri Lankan cricket. Last time he came, he was lean but now he has put on muscle and is stronger."
