In another massive blow to the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), their star all-rounder David Willey will be replaced with one of their former players in Kedar Jadhav, who has already played for the Bengaluru-based outfit. Willey made four appearances for RCB, taking three wickets.
The franchise confirmed that the England all-rounder suffered a fractured toe and adductor strain.
Meanwhile, Jadhav has played 93 Indian Premier League (IPL) games and has 1196 runs to his name. The right-handed batter, who has previously represented RCB in 17 matches, was brought on board for Rs 1 Crore.
The news comes midway through the season, as RCB confirm their third replacement player. It has not yet been confirmed as to why the batter has been brought in as a replacement for the English all-rounder.
The veteran batter started his IPL career with the Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals) against RCB and is one of just nine Indians to score a half-century on debut. The right-hander has previously played for the Faf du Plessis-led side in 17 matches during the 2016 and 2017 IPL seasons.
Jadhav last featured in the IPL in 2021 for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
The 38-year-old batter had not played limited-overs cricket since November 2021 before he returned for Maharashtra in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in November 2022. He has smashed an excellent 283 in his first First Class match in four years since January 2019 in the 2022-23 Ranji Trophy.
This was also his first ton since late 2018 and his first 200-plus score since his record-breaking 2013-14 Ranji Trophy season, where he was the leading run-getter with 1223 runs to his name in 17 innings.
The former India batter has played 73 ODIs and nine T20Is for India and is also the only Indian to have a 40-plus average and 100-plus strike rate in ODIs with a minimum of 1000 runs.
Before Jadhav, RCB had brought in South African all-rounder Wayne Parnell for Reece Topley, while their injured star Indian batter Rajat Patidar was replaced by Vijaykumar Vyshak.
