In what was an incredible batting performance, young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed his first Indian Premier League (IPL) century, and the third of the season, as he took the Mumbai Indians (MI) bowlers to the cleaners during their match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, April 30.
Jaiswal's brilliant ton followed that of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) opener Harry Brook against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and then KKR's Venkatesh Iyer, who hit his century against the same opponents.
The young opener's innings included 13 fours and 6 sixes off just 53 balls as he went on to bat till the final over for his team and take his team to an extremely impressive total of 212 runs. He went on to score 124 runs, which is the highest score of this season.
Jaiswal has been incredible this season, having already hit three half-centuries this season. In what was his home ground, it was an exceptional performance by the star batter, who also etched his name on a special book in history.
Jaiswal joined a list with the legendary Brendon McCullum, hitting a century in the 1000th IPL match. The former KKR and New Zealand batter was the first centurion of the IPL, hitting the same in the first ever match of the cash-rich league.
The 21-year-old also equalled the highest score by an RR batter, the same as his current teammate Jos Buttler, who hit 124 runs against SRH in IPL 2021.
