IPL 2023: After 6 wicketless forays, Washington Sundar destroys Delhi Capitals' middle order with 3 scalps in one over

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) all-rounder Washington Sundar finally ended his wicketless streak in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 when he faced off against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Monday, April 24.

And once his first wicket came, he quickly bagged two more in the same over as the spinner ran riot on the DC middle order in the 8th over.

He first got the precious wicket of David Warner, who was their highest run-getter of this season with 306 runs to his name. The Australian swept the ball away but straight to Harry Brook, who will standing deep backward square leg.

Sarfaraz Khan followed two balls later. This was an important wicket as the batter has been in imperious form in the Ranji Trophy and looked like a threat before his shot caught the top edge and once again went to Bhuvneshwar Kumar at deep backward square leg fielder for the right-hander. He had to return to the pavilion after scoring just 10 runs.

Aman Khan was Washington's third scalp of the match, and the over. The youngster was on four runs off two balls but his timing was all wrong in the balls that he faced.

It was another ridiculous heave by Khan that ended his stay at the crease. Sundar flighted the ball wider on the sixth stump as Khan took a step forward to try to get the ball down the ground again. Instead, he skied the ball for a top edge over cover within the circle. It was a basic catch that was taken at chest height on the edge of the circle.

It was the end of his wickets for the day as he went on to concede just 28 runs. He reduced Delhi to 62/5 but that was where the game turned for DC's batters, with the in-form Axar Patel entering the fray.

Axar went on to stitch a 69-run partnership with Manish Pandey, off 59 balls. The all-rounder scored a run-a-ball 34 while Manish hit a 27-ball 34.
