Virat Kohli, who himself is a legend of the game, has picked his two GOATs of Indian Premier League (IPL) and to everyone's surprise Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni and Mumbai Indians' (MI) captain Rohit Sharma couldn't make a cut in the list.
However, it was a difficult choice of the Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) batting juggernaut too when asked about to pick the GOAT of the IPL and he ended up taking two big names. However, Kohli said he thinks RCB's legend AB De Villiers and former MI's ace pacer Lasith Malinga are the two GOATs of the cash-rich league.
Having played alongside AB De Villiers for the same franchise, RCB, Kohli shares a great camaraderie with the former South African skipper. Kohli himself shares a vibrant bond with De Villiers, having played alongside him during the South African batter's time in the IPL. As far as Malinga is concerned, he has been the pace spearhead for the five-time champions MI and has won umpteen matches for the Paltans' during his stint in IPL.
“AB de Villiers and Lasith Malinga are the GOATs of IPL," replied Virat.
De Villiers scored 5,162 runs in 184 outings in IPL, cementing his legacy as one of the most legendary batsmen to play in the league. He was recently inducted into RCB’s Hall of Fame, alongside fellow legend Chris Gayle. Malinga, on the other hand, won four IPL titles with Mumbai Indians and is the third-highest wicket-taker in IPL history with 170 scalps to his name.
Kohli was also quizzed about his favourite IPL team to play against to which he said," Chennai Super Kings due to its big fan base. It is exciting."
When further quizzed about which three things he’d like to ‘beg, borrow and steal’ from MS Dhoni, Kohli remarked," his quadriceps, calves and composure."
Kohli also revealed his favourite shot in T20 cricket and to everyone's surprise it wasn't his trademark coverdrive. Rather he picked the pull shot over everything. He also believes Ramp Shot is the most ridiculous as he said that he can’t play the shot it himself.
The RCB's batting juggernaut also termed Shane Watson as the greatest all-rounder in the history of IPL. Meanwhile, he thinks Ambati Rayudu is the most underrated batter in IPL.
Talking about Kohli's trackrecord in IPL, he is the highest run-scorer in the cash-rich league's history as he has amassed 6411 runs in 208 matches so far.
