Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) stand-in skipper Virat Kohli has been fined Rs. 24 Lakhs for their second breach of the Code of Conduct during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday, April 23, 2023.

The official IPL website released a statement that read, "Royal Challengers Bangalore, who had named Virat Kohli as their Captain for their game against Rajasthan Royals, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Rajasthan Royals at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on April 23, 2023.

Since it was the second time that the team was called out for the breach this season, not only was the team's captain, but the Playing XI, including the impact substitute, were fined for the offences.\

"As it was his team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Kohli was fined Rs. 24 lakh and each member of the Playing XI, including the impact substitute, was fined Rs 6 lakhs or 25 per cent of the match fee, whichever is lesser," the official statement added.
RCB went on the win the match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) by seven runs after Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell's century stand in the first innings proved to be too much for the Royals, who were restricted to just 182 runs while chasing Bangalore's 189.

A fast start from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Devdutt Padikkal made it seem like the win was in the bag but the RCB bowlers did very well in the tail end to seal a seven-run victory.

Things went awry for RR when Padikkal's wicket fell in the 12th over. David Willey got the breakthrough off a back of a length on-off delivery, which he holed straight to Kohli. Jaiswal soon followed in the 14th over, with the young opener hitting the ball to Kohli off Harshal Patel's bowling.

This effectively ended the charge by RR, as skipper Sanju Samson (22) and Shimron Hetmyer (3) returned to the pavilion cheaply. With 20 runs needed in the final over of the match, Harshal Patel was hit for 4, 2, 4 in the first three balls of the over by Ashwin, but the pacer got the wicket in the fourth ball of the match, after which he successfully defended the remaining 10 runs.
