IPL Points Table: Resurgent Mumbai Indians leave eighth spot to dislodge third placed LSG after thrashing RCB

The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is alive and kicking. A total of 54 matches have been played so far in IPL 2023 while the franchises involved have provided immense entertainment to their loyal supporters. After more than a month of action in the cash-rich tournament, all the teams are gearing up for the business end of the competition.

 

On May 9 (Tuesday), five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) bulldozed Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by six wickets to take a massive leap in the IPL 2023's points table. Rohit Sharma-led MI, who were earlier reeling at eighth place jumped to dislodge Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) from third spot after gunning down RCB's daunting target of 200, thanks to Suryakumar Yadav's lightning knoc.

 

Let's take a look at how teams are faring in IPL 2023 points table:

1. Gujarat Titans: The defending champions continue to be at the top of the points table with eight wins in 11 matches played. They have earned 16 points and a Net Run Rate (NRR) of 0.951.

2. Chennai Super Kings: The Men in Yellow are second after their win over Mumbai Indians. They now have six wins in 11 matches played. They have an NRR of 0.409 and 13 points to their name.

3. Mumbai Indians: Rohit Sharma's army have shot to third in the points table after earning six victories in 11 matches so far and have an NNR of -0.255.

4. Lucknow Super Giants: Krunal Pandya's men are third on the points table. LSG have won five out of their 11 matches so far and have an NNR of 0.409 and 11 points.

5. Rajasthan Royals: Sanju Samson's side have slipped to fourth place on the points table. They have five wins and six defeats in 10 matches played so far. The Royals have earned 10 points with an NNR of 0.388.

6. Kolkata Knight Riders: In 11 matches played, KKR have lost six games and won five contests. They are in the fifth spot with an NRR of -0.079.

7. Royal Challengers Bangalore: The Red Army took a massive hit after MI's hammering and have five wins in 11 matches this season so far with an NRR of -0.345 and 10 points.

8. Punjab Kings: The Punjab-based franchise now have five wins in 11 matches played. They have 10 points with an NRR of -0.441.

9. Sunrisers Hyderabad: The Orange Army is in ninth place on the points table. They have eight points with an NRR of -0.472 in 10 matches played.

10. Delhi Capitals: David Warner-led Delhi have only secured four wins in a total of 10 matches played so far with an NRR of -0.529 to sit bottom of the table.
