Looking at the misery of Delhi Capitals (DC) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), former India star pacer Irfan Pathan has given a big statement on the David Warner's side. Pathan has said that Sourav Ganguly should become head coach of the DC from the next season.
Ganguly is currently DC's Director of Cricket not just in Men's IPL but also in the Women's Premier League (WPL), SA20's Pretoria Capitals and ILT20's Dubai Capitals. Earlier, Ganguly had also mentored DC, a franchise which is now coached by Ricky Ponting, in IPL 2019.
DC, who are having a nightmarish campaign this season, are already out of IPL's playoffs' contention with just eight points in 12 matches. They got off to a horrid start to IPL 2023 as they lost five matches on the trot. Warner's brigade did manage to launch a comeback with four victories in next five games. But their struggles once again came to the fore in the previous matches against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) which they lost and subsequently got eliminated from the coveted playoff berth.
Meanwhile, right ahead the clash between DC and PBKS on May 17 (Wednesday), 2007 T20 World Cup-winning pacer in a conversation with Star Sports said that Ganguly's presence on the DC dugout in a big deal. Pathan said that the Ganguly knows how to run the dressing room and have a better understanding of psychology Indian players' psychology.
"Sourav Ganguly's presence in the Delhi dugout is a big deal. I think if Dada is given the responsibility of coach as well, he can make a big difference in this team. Dada has knowledge of the psychology of Indian players. He knows how to run the dressing room and Delhi should definitely take advantage of that. At the time of the toss, Warner has said that his team has now started preparing for the next season and in this context, it would not be wrong to see Ganguly in a changed role," Pathan said.
DC, who are already out of the IPL 2023's playoff contention, will look to play a spoilsport in PBKS' hopes of qualifying for the top-4 by winning the match.
