MS Dhoni becomes first wicketkeeper-batter in IPL history to achieve this feat with consecutive sixes vs LSG

The legendary MS Dhoni once again swung his magic wand and stepped on a massive milestone for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Monday (April 3).

The CSK skipper Dhoni launched two massive sixes to complete his 5000 runs in the cash-rich league as he became the first wicketkeeper-batter to do so in the IPL history. Dhoni achieved this massive feat in his 236th appearance for the four-time champions.

Dhoni also became the seventh cricketer and fifth Indian batter to touch 5000-run mark in the IPL in his 208th innings to enter the elite list of star batters. Beside Dhoni Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, David Warner, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina and AB de Villiers have garnered 5000 runs in the IPL.

Kohli with 6706 runs in 224 IPL matches is currently the highest run-getter in IPL history. He is followed by Dhawan (6086 in 199 IPL matches), Rohit (5764 runs in 221 IPL matches), David Warner (5668 in 155 IPL matches), Raina (5528 runs in 205 IPL matches), and AB de Villiers (5162 runs in 184 IPL matches).

Meanwhile, Dhoni has mustered 5006 runs in 236 IPL matches riding on 24 fifties at stunning average of 39.09.

Dhoni, who is playing at the Chepauk stadium after a halt of four years, walked down the crease and started belting a cracking six at the wide of the third-man region off the first ball while facing IPL 2023's Purple Cap holder Mark Wood. He didn't stop there as he smoked another monstrous six at the deep square leg boundary in the following ball off Mark Wood to breach the 5000-run mark. However he was removed in the next ball after scoring 12 off 3 balls as CSK posted a colossal target of 218 for LSG to chase.
