Before even the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) commenced over a month ago, fans and former cricketers began speculating about Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni's future. There were numerous reports claiming that IPL 2023 might be the last time Dhoni plays for the Men in Yellow. Having said that, Dhoni himself has come out and said that it is the fans who trying to give him a send-off and that he has not thought about retirement.
Former India and CSK spinner, Harbhajan has made a humble request to his former captain and longtime teammate, urging him to continue playing.
"MS Dhoni has stopped time. He still looks the same old Dhoni. He's hitting those big shots, taking those singles. Although he's not running at his full speed, he's hitting those sixes at ease and still looks dangerous with the bat. Don't hurt our feelings MSD. You should continue playing," said Harbhajan on Star Sports.
From being the second-worst team in IPL 2022 to becoming the second-best in 2023, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have returned to their vintage self in the ongoing edition of the cash-rich tournament. Several heroes have been behind the revival of the second most successful franchise in IPL history but none bigger than the poster boy and captain, MS Dhoni. One of the greatest leaders of all time has used the resources at his disposal in flawless fashion while his tactics and shrewd strategies have made the Men in Yellow one of the teams to beat this season.
Former India women's team captain Mithali Raj also noted how astute Dhoni has been with his leadership this season and how the poster boy of CSK has once again dragged his team to the top.
"There are a lot of noises when a player approaches the back end of his career. MS Dhoni shut the noise brilliantly and guided his team slowly in this season. He's helped CSK stay in the hunt for the top two spots so far. It's not just his captaincy, but also the on-field strategies that he's made has helped CSK do well. He made several smart moves in the tournament. Rahane is a perfect example of how a player revives himself under a good captain," said Mithali.
