It has been a chaotic season for defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The change of captaincy did not suit the four-time Indian Premier League (IPL) winners. As a result, Mahendra Singh Dhoni donned the captaincy hat once again with Ravindra Jadeja returning to the role of a player. While there have been few speculations over Dhoni’s future in CSK given that he is almost 41 years old, it is likely that he will continue to lead the franchise next season as well.
According to a report by ESPNCricinfo, Dhoni will lead CSK in IPL 2023 as well. On the other hand, there have been speculations over whether Jadeja will continue to play for CSK or join any other franchise. It has also been learnt that Jadeja will continue with CSK as a player despite an unsuccessful short stint as the captain of second-most successful franchise of IPL. The all-rounder left CSK camp midway through the season after getting injured.
“Dhoni has informed team management about his availability for next season. There is no decision on captaincy as of now. If he is available I believe management may go with him," the source told Sports Tak
Earlier this week, Dhoni had made clear that he is not ready to hang up his boots just yet. "You'll definitely see me in the yellow jersey - whether it's this yellow jersey or some other yellow jersey you will have to wait and watch," the former Indian skipper told Danny Morrison at the toss against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
The news came just ahead of CSK’s last league clash against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Brabourne stadium, Mumbai, on May 20. Before the Royals clash, CSK had four wins from 13 games. CSK are likely to finish the season in the ninth spot irrespective of the result of the game against Sanju Samson-led Royals.
