Chennai Super Kings (CSK) registered an emphatic win against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 23 (Sunday) at the Eden Gardens Stadium. The Men in Yellow trounced the two-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions by 49 runs and scaled to the top of the points table. It was a complete team effort from the Super Kings and the foundation was once again laid by the franchise's opening batters Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad.
"I think my partnership with Rutu calms the nerves. A lot of credit needs to go to Rutu. I'm just trying to be as clear as possible. I've always had an issue with the ball on the body, but have been getting over it. By using my feet [against spinners], I get into good positions and get momentum," said Conway after the game.
Conway and Ruturaj gave CSK a blistering start as the duo combined for a 73-run partnership for the opening wicket. The left-handed Conway scored 56 runs off 40 balls with the help of four fours and three sixes while the right-handed Gaikwad played a quickfire cameo of 35 runs off 20 balls with the help of two fours and three sixes.
The Super Kings have enjoyed massive crowd support across venues in this season of the cash-rich tournament. The major reason behind that has been the presence of MS Dhoni in the team. While CSK played at Eden Gardens on Sunday, it appeared as if the team was playing at Chepauk.
"The culture we have here in Chennai us very special and for us it's about continuing this momentum. Certainly, having MS makes us feel like every game is like a home fixture," the CSK batter added.
CSK skipper Dhoni also reflected on the huge support he received from the Eden Gardens crowd on Sunday.
"I will just say thanks for the support, they came in big numbers. Most of these guys will come in a KKR jersey next time. They are trying to give me a farewell, so thanks a lot to the crowd," Dhoni said after the game.
