Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Mahendra Singh Dhoni is yet to give a final answer whether he will retire after Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 final or return next season. While many feel that Dhoni can continue to play IPL for few more overs, Dhoni has left his IPL future open to speculations. But, Dwayne Bravo had a unique take on Dhoni’s role at CSK in next season. When asked about whether Dhoni will be seen donning the yellow jersey once again, Bravo said that the wicketkeeper-batter can play as an impact player as well.

“100%. Especially, with the Impact Player rule. It will keep prolonging his career,” the legendary IPL all-rounder told anchor Mayanti Langer after the 15-run win over Gujarat Titans at Chepauk.

Dhoni to take call on IPL future near mini-auction

On May 24, Dhoni was asked by Harsha Bhogle in the post-match presentation ceremony whether this is the last time he has batted at Chepauk. “I don’t know, I have 8-9 months to decide. I have ample time to decide. Why take that headache now? The auction is in December. I will always come to CSK. I have been out of home since January, been practising since March, so we will see. I’ll always be there for CSK, where it’s playing or something outside,” the 41-year-old replied.

Dhoni battling knee injury

Dhoni has continued to march on despite a knee injury that has limited his mobility. Known for being lightning quick not just behind the stumps but between the wickets too, Dhoni has refrained from pushing himself to sneak an extra run. Instead, he has relied on his power-hitting and contributed with cameos down the order. He has been flexible with his batting position as well, arriving at the crease when the need of the hour is big hits.

Dhoni’s evolved role as CSK big-hitter

Earlier this month, Dhoni had revealed that he has told his teammates to not make him run hard between the wickets.

"This is what my job is (hitting big shots). I have told them this is what I am supposed to do. Don't make me run a lot. It has been working. This is what I need to do, happy to contribute,” the veteran finisher had said after a 20-run cameo against Delhi Capitals (DC).
