'It's very harsh for y'all to ask this question': Former CSK batter wants MS Dhoni IPL retirement talks to end

Since the start of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, there have been speculations that this will be Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni’s last season. While many cricketers including his CSK teammates have said that Dhoni can go on to play more seasons, few have said that Dhoni will hang his boots by the end of IPL 2023. But former CSK opener Murali Vijay feels that the talks around Dhoni’s retirement should come to an end as it is very harsh a question to ask.

“It’s an individual choice. It’s high time people understand what a cricketer is going through. He’s served our country for about 15 years. So we should be giving him space to take that call, rather than putting pressure by asking when he’s going to retire. It’s very harsh for y'all to ask this question. Everybody is asking about MS’ retirement.

"It is so sad for me to sit and answer it. I have retired recently, so I know how it feels. We have given our heart and soul to this game and it’s a personal choice, and I want to tell people to maintain that little bit of privacy,” Vijay told Sportskeeda.

Earlier this week, Dhoni was also asked the retirement question at an event to which he replied, "There is lots of time to take that call. Right now, we have lots of games, and the coach will be under pressure if I say something.”

Dhoni has been in tremendous form in this season. The soon-to-be 42-year-old has scored 59 runs from four innings while batting down the order. After facing just 28 balls, Dhoni has already hit six sixes and scored at an impressive strike rate of 210.71. Dhoni scored a 15-ball 32 which went in vain as Rajasthan Royals (RR) pacer Sandeep Sharma bowled a brilliant yorker to prevent him from hitting a six.

CSK started off with a loss against defending champions Gujarat Titans in IPL 2023 opener. So far, they have won three out of five games and are in third place on the points table.
