Prabhsimran Singh became the first Punjab Kings (PBKS) batter to score a century in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season. The PBKS opener became the sixth Indian batter and seventh overall to score a century in Indian Premier League (IPL) history.

Prabhsimran got to his maiden IPL century from 60 balls in the 18th over of the innings against Delhi Capitals (DC) at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. Other uncapped Indian batters to score an IPL century are Manish Pandey, Paul Valthaty, Devdutt Padikkal, Rajat Patidar and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

This is the fifth century of the ongoing IPL season after Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) Harry Brook, Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) Venkatesh Iyer, Rajasthan Royals' (RR) Jaiswal and Mumbai Indians' (MI) Suryakumar Yadav.

The 22-year-old helped PBKS recover after three of their batters -- Shikhar Dhawan, Liam Livingstone and Jitesh Sharma -- returned to the dressing room in powerplay overs. He shared a crucial partnership with Sam Curran. The youngster broke free in the 11th over when he smashed Mitchell Marsh for two sixes and one four in the 21-run over. He got to his half-century from 42 deliveries.

He got a reprieve in the 15th over when Rilee Rossouw dropped his catch at deep square leg off Praveen Dubey's bowling. He was batting on 68 then. He took just 19 more deliveries to reach from 50 to 100. He became the sixth youngest Indian to score an IPL hundred.

He got out in the penultimate over of the innings. He went for a premeditated scoop but could only manage a tiny inside edge which deflected to the stumps. He scored 103 runs from 65 balls including 10 fours and six sixes. His 103 helped PBKS post a respectable total of 167/7 on the board.

“I thought to take time and pounce on the loose ball to convert. As I started the season, I wanted to make it a good season. Pitch was tough for batting but it was easier for the set batsman. On this wicket, playing the pace bowlers was easy and the balls were in my slot. We were thinking about 170 and we got close to it,” he said during the innings break.
