Rishabh Pant joins elite list of IPL captains, becomes 3rd Indian to achieve feat

Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Rishabh Pant joins elite list of Indian Premier League (IPL) captains win his team’s  comfortable win against Rajasthan Royals at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. Pant becomes the sixth IPL captain to register eight wins from his first 10 games as a captain. The list includes the most successful IPL skipper Rohit Sharma, Gautam Gambhir, Shane Warne, Geroge Bailey and Kane Williamson. 

 

The wicketkeeper-batsman has led DC well in the ongoing season as the team is currently at the top of the points table with 16 points. The 23-year-old took over the captaincy of DC as an injured Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of first phase of IPL 2021. Despite Iyer’s return, DC have chosen to stick with Pant as captain for the second phase of the tournament. 

 

Pant has been doing well with the bat as well with 272 runs including two half-centuries to his name in the season so far at an average of 38.85. 

 

Consolation prize for Samson

In the DC vs RR clash, Sanju Samson reached a milestone as well despite his team losing by 33 runs. Samson’s solitary six of his unbeaten 70-run knock in the last over of the match puts him in IPL’s 100 sixes club. The Kerala batsman became the second RR batsman after Shane Watson and 12th overall to hit a century of sixes.
