In a high-scoring thriller that went down to the wire on April 23 (Saturday), Mumbai Indians sustained a 13-run defeat against Punjab Kings at the Wankhede Stadium. Chasing a massive target of 215 runs, the Men in Blue were in the hunt to secure a famous win until the last over of the match. Ultimately, the pressure got the better of Rohit Sharma's men as Arshdeep Singh delivered on the best last overs of the season to dash the hopes of the home crowd.
After the game, MI captain Rohit reflected on the team's loss at home and voiced his disappointment but urged his teammates to not get down on themselves as a ton of time is still remaining in the tournament.
"A little disappointed. We made some errors on the field which can happen but we won't look too much into that," Sharma said after the match to the broadcaster.
"Just keep our heads high. We played six games now, won 3 lost 3. Even stevens at the moment. Lot of time remaining in the tournament so we can't look down. We need to stay in the game and in the tournament and keep doing the right things. Yes, we didn't come out on top today. Like I said, we made some errors but it is something for us to look back at it," Sharma further added.
Cameron Green (67 runs off 43 balls) and Suryakumar Yadav (57 runs off 26 balls) combined for an exciting partnership. The duo's stroke-making got the Wankhede crowd jumping and when they were at the crease, MI's victory looked more likely. Once Nathan Ellis dismissed Green, the game hung on a knife edge. Arsdeep Singh delivered the body blow to MI once he dismissed Suryakumar.
"Quite happy with the way these 2 guys batted today. It was important for us to keep us in the game and they kept us in the game till the end. Gotta give credit to Arshdeep the way he bowled in the end. it was not our day today," Sharma concluded.
