IPL 2023 Auction: Royal Challengers Bangalore refrain from spending big; pick star pacer, rookie England all-rounder

SportsTak

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) remained spectators for most part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 auction. They retained their core and did not need to go after big guns in the auction. Their most expensive player in the auction turned out to be England's Will Jacks who they got for Rs 3.2 crore. They went for another Englishman in the form of tall left-arm pacer Reece Topley. They mostly invested in local talents.

RCB are one team that the IPL trophy has eluded over the years. They had a brilliant performance in the 2022 season, finishing fourth in the league table. They went on to beat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the eliminator round of the knockouts but fell at the hands of Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the final of the mega event.

The side have not won the IPL but finished runners-up on three occasions between 2009 and 2016. The team holds the records of both the highest and the lowest totals in the IPL – 263/5 and 49 respectively. Ahead of the IPL 2023 Auction, Bangalore have gone for stability, releasing only a handful of players. They had released only five players from the previous season in the hopes of winning the trophy for the first time.
