In-form Ruturaj Gaikwad is hitting sixes at will. In the previous season, he hit a total of 14 sixes. Just two matches for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) this season, Gaikwad has hit 13 sixes already. In the fifth over, Gaikwad's monstrous hit dented the sponsorship car at MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Off-spinner Krishnappa Gowtham pitched one up. Gaikwad held his shape and hit the ball wide of long-off for an 81-metre hit. The ball hit the sponsorship car and left a dent on it. The photos of the dented car have been making rounds on the internet.
Gaikwad did not stop there and smashed another six off the last ball of the over. He started off with a six over bowler's head. He finished the over with another six wide of long-off. Gowtham leaked 20 runs in his first over and was not brought back into the attack by KL Rahul.
The 26-year-old CSK opener got to his second half-century of the season from 25 balls. He shared a 110-run opening partnership with Devon Conway. The duo combined to score 79 runs in the powerplay overs. This is CSK's highest score in powerplay overs at their home ground.
Gaikwad lost his wicket to Ravi Bishnoi as the leading edge was caught by Mark Wood at short third man. He scored 57 runs from 31 balls including three fours and four sixes.
Gaikwad currently holds the Orange Cap. In the previous game, he scored 92 runs from 50 deliveries including four fours and nine sixes. However, his 92-run knock ended up in losing cause as defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) won the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 opener by five wickets with four balls to spare.
