IPL 2023: In-form Ruturaj Gaikwad snatches Orange Cap from David Warner, builds 31-run lead at the top

The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is alive and kicking. A total of 12 matches have been played in IPL 2023 and the franchises involved have provided immense entertainment to their loyal supporters. After nine days of action in the cash-rich tournament, all teams have played at least two matches while a few franchises have played three games. Gujarat Titans (GT) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) are the only two teams that are unbeaten in the completion so far.

While it's still early days in this edition of the cash-rich league, each franchise would have analysed its strengths and weaknesses depending on the performances. When it comes to the race for Orange Cap, Chennai Super Kings' Ruturaj Gaikwad scaled to the top after another attractive cameo against the Mumbai Indians on April 8 (Saturday).

Let's take a look at the top 5 leading run-scorer in IPL 2023 so far.

1. Rututaj Gaikwad: The right-handed batter has so far scored 189 runs in three innings at a strike rate of 161.54 and an average of 94.50.

2. David Warner: The Delhi Capitals' captain has registered 158 runs in three matches so far at a strike rate of 117.04 and an average of 52.67.

3. Jos Buttler: The Rajasthan Royals' explosive batter has amassed 152 runs in three matches at a strike rate of 180.95 and an average of 50.67.

4. Kyle Mayers: The Lucknow Super Giants' destructive opening batter has scored 139 runs in three matches at a strike rate of 187.84 and an average of 46.33.

5. Shikhar Dhawan: The Punjab Kings skipper has aggregated 126 runs in two matches at a strike rate of 148.24 and an average of 126.

A total of eight batters have so far scored 100 or more runs in the ongoing cash-rich tournament. Yashasvi Jaiswal (125), Tilak Varma (106) and Virat Kohli (103) are sixth, seventh and eighth in the highest run-getters list.
