With his stylish strokes and consistent output with the bat, Gujarat Titans' (GT) opening batter Shubman Gill has become the cynosure of all eyes. The elegant right-handed batter fired his franchise to yet another Indian Premier League (IPL) final and is currently gearing up to end the tournament in the same manner in which he has played throughout the season. Gill will be up against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the final on May 28 (Sunday) at the Narendra Modi Stadium, a ground where the GT opener has tormented bowling attacks for fun this season.
Gill has already secured the Orange Cap this season with an aggregate of 851 runs in 16 matches. He is averaging 60.79 with the bat and has scored runs at a strike rate of 156.43. The right-handed batter has smashed four fifties and three centuries this season so far. He smashed an unforgettable century against Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 that ultimately rolled out GT's road to the final.
Former India captain and legendary batter, Sachin Tendulkar penned a heartfelt appreciation message for Gill on May 28 (Sunday). The Mumbai Indians mentor cited different skills in Gill's arsenal that make the right-handed batter a phenomenal batter.
"Shubman Gill's performance this season has been nothing short of unforgettable, marked by two centuries that left an indelible impact. One century ignited @mipaltan's hopes, while the other dealt them a crushing blow. Such is the unpredictable nature of cricket!" Sachin wrote on Twitter.
"What truly impressed me about Shubman's batting was his remarkable temperament, unwavering calmness, hunger for runs and astute running between the wickets.
"In high-scoring encounters, there are always decisive moments that shape the outcome, and Shubman's exceptional acceleration from the 12th over onwards propelled @gujarat_titans to a monumental total. It was a display of his capacity to seize momentum and make a profound impact on the game. Likewise, Mumbai briefly got back into the game with @TilakV9’s blistering 24 runs against @MdShami11 and were alive till @surya_14kumar got out," Sachin added.
Giving his views on the IPL 2023 final, Sachin cited the strength of both Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans before touring the game as an interesting fixture to watch.
"Gujarat are a formidable side and the wickets of @ShubmanGill, @hardikpandya7 & @DavidMillerSA12 will be key for Chennai tonight. @ChennaiIPL also bat deep with @msdhoni coming in as low as number 8, hence it could be a case of one team out batting the other. It’s going to be an interesting Final to watch," Sachin wrote on Twitter.
