West Indian power-hitter Shimron Hetmyer rejoined the Rajasthan Royals (RR) team camp's bio-bubble days after becoming a parent. The 25-year-old will be available for selection for their final league match slated to take place on May 20 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Hetmyer is undergoing quarantine as per the Indian Premier League (IPL) protocol and should be out in time to train ahead of Royal's final league match on Friday.
On May 8, the Royals announced that Hetmyer was flying back home to Guyana to be with his wife, who was due to give birth to their first child. The announcement came hours after his 16-ball 31 led Rajasthan to a victory over Punjab Kings (PBKS). He announced the birth of his baby boy on his social media account days later.
Hetmyer was bought by the Royals for Rs 8.5 crore at the IPL mega auction in February. He has been phenomenal for RR, especially as a finisher. The West Indian has smashed 291 runs at an average of 72. Hetmyer's also has a strike rate of 214.28 in the death overs, making him an important member of the team.
Meanwhile, the Royals have emerged as strong playoff contenders after a closely fought 24-run victory over the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Sunday (May 15) night. This was an important win for the Royals, who overtook LSG to reach the second position on the points table with eight wins from 13 matches.
