Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are preparing to compete for a third Indian Premier League (IPL) title, but the side have been hit with an injury to their skipper Shreyas Iyer, who will reportedly miss the remainder of the competition. In his stead, Nitish Rana will skipper the team, and their mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy is confident in his stand-in captain's idea, he told Sports Tak in an exclusive interview.
"I feel he's ready and I don't think he was a surprise selection for Shreyas Iyer's replacement because he has the proper experience because he's captained Delhi as well... I can't tell you the difference (between Shreyas and Nitish) because I've not played much under Nitish but from what I know over four years, he's very good with the Indian boys."
He has a good connection with all the Indian and domestic boys, he knows how to get the work done. Tactically, I've not played under him much but I feel that in one practice match where I played under him, he was on spot with all his tactics," said the off-spinner.

He is also looking forward to combining with Sunil Narine once again and hopes that their combination will finally bear fruit in the upcoming season. "We have small discussions before every match on how to go about the match. So, because he's very experienced and he gives his ideas also to me so he's a very integral part of my bowling also and how he bowls also, it affects me and I learn a lot from how he bowls. I hope this time our partnership works," said the 31-year-old.
The spinner is also trying to work his way back into the national team, but is not going to 'be desperate about it'. "I'm definitely aiming for that. But on the other side, I don't want to be desperate about it and go out of my process and start running behind results. If it has to happen, it is going to happen... I don't want to be desperate but it's always going to be in the back of my mind that I want to represent India again."
