Delhi Capitals (DC) suffered a confidence-shattering 50-run defeat against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their opening match of their 2023. Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign. Right-arm England pacer Mark Wood unleashed thunderbolts regularly and made DC batters look like greenhorns during LSG's fantastic victory on April 1 (Saturday). DC captain David Warner did score a half-century but the Australian southpaw looked far from his vintage best.

DC would now hope for a quick turnaround in fortunes when they play defending champions Gujarat Titans in front of their home crowd at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Warner voices excitement when quizzed about playing in Delhi but was quickly interrupted by former India captain Sunil Gavaskar, who came up with a hilarious response to the DC skipper's remark.

"We go back to Delhi in front of our home crowd. I know it's a batting wicket. The last time, I was there in Delhi back in 2011, it was low and slow. Now I saw a bit of green grass on that surface. There will be a bit of dew in the night. If we can get an all-round good wicket, it would be fantastic," Warner told the host broadcaster after the game.

Gavaskar quickly replied, "David last time you were there in Delhi in 2011-12? You were there last month."

Gavaskar referenced to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy played between India and Australia a few days before the start of the cash-rich tournament. Warner played the second Test match of the series which was held in Delhi and after that game, he left for Australia with an injury.

Warner responded to Gavaskar's comments and said, "Yeah, I know that. That was a different pitch, it was a red ball. Let's forget that."

Warner was given the captaincy of the Delhi-based franchise with Rishabh Pant out nursing his injuries sustained during a horrendous car accident towards the end of 2022.
