In just over a week's time, the greatest T20 franchise cricket league will get underway. After the completion of the ODI series between India and Australia, the Indian cricketers will next be seen showcasing their talent in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) which is scheduled to begin on March 31. The players participating in the cash-rich tournament have already started training with their respective franchises and the Indian cricketers, who were busy with national duties will now be joining their respective franchises.
Before the cash-rich tournament gets underway, let's take a closer look at Sunrisers Hyderbad's strengths, weaknesses and full squad.
Hyderabad's strengths
The Hyderabad-based franchise added young Indian batting star Mayank Agarwal to their squad and along with Rahul Tripathi and Abhishek Sharma, the team has a nice blend of Indian willow-wielders. At the same time, swashbuckling England batter Harry Brook was bought by the franchise for a whopping sum of Rs 13.25 crores. Brook and captain Aiden Markram will bring in the overseas firepower in the batting order. New Zealand's explosive batter Glenn Phillips will add more firepower to Hyderabad's batting unit.
Hyderabad's weaknesses
The Sunrisers won the IPL in 2016 under the leadership of David Warner. Apart from not having the services of the Aussie batter, the franchise will miss Kane Williamson and probably the best T20 spinner in the world, Rashid Khan. Fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who is struggling with fitness, will once again take charge of Hyderabad's fast bowling, while T Natarajan, Karthik Tyagi and Umran Malik will form the core of Hyderabad's attack, which looks inexperienced without Bhuvneshwar. In the spin department, the Sunrisers have the services of Adil Rashid and Washington Sundar. But the presence of just two quality spinners somewhat makes the Sunrisers vulnerable.
