'Tough when you are off the field, watching your teammates not getting the result': Tim David opens up on being dropped

Sitting on the bench is not an easy job, especially when you have to witness your team go on a losing streak without being able to do much about it. Tim David is one such player who was warming the bench, but the Singaporean cricketer was at his best when Mumbai Indians (MI) took on Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Friday, May 6.

David hit an unbeaten 44 off 21 balls, notching a lovely strike rate of 209.52. Sharing his thoughts after the match, he said, It's tough when you are sitting off the field, especially watching your teammates not get the result. Try as hard as you can in the nets and be ready when the opportunity comes."

MI openers Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma ended their run of bad form, scoring 45 runs off 29 balls and 43 runs off 28 balls respectively. After their middle order faltered, Tim David stabilised their batting with his brave knock and also ensured that his team were able to reach a competitive total of 177.

David was pleased to have helped his side to the win, but at the same time, was disappointed at not being able to score more runs for his team, "Given the context, us winning the game, it feels great. It was a good batting wicket, I missed out on a few scoring opportunities in the last over. Shows how well our bowlers bowled in the second half to get us over the line. The wicket was slightly two-paced, it's about starting your innings, if you get off to a flier then you just run with it. It's great to be on the winning side."

MI were able to defend their total in what turned out to be a closely fought affair. The five-time champions successfully defended nine runs in the last over to secure their second straight win of the season.
