Two new teams for IPL 2022 announced: Details here

Lucknow and Ahmedabad will be the new franchises in the 2022 edition of Indian Premier League. The two new franchises for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season have been announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). With the addition of (RPSG Group), (CVC Capital), IPL 2022 will be a 10-team tournament next year. 

 

Sanjiv Goenka-owned RPSG Group picked Lucknow as their home base with a winning bid of a whopping Rs 7090 crores whereas CVC Capital opted for Ahmedabad with a bid of INR 5625 crores.
 

The last time 10 teams competition in IPL was in 2011. Also, IPL 2012 and 2013 season consisted of nine teams. Many recognized groups were in the race to get the ownership of IPL but in the end, only ‘Lucknow’ and ‘Ahmedabad' have won their respective bids in the bidding ceremony held by the BCCI. 

 

With the addition of two new teams, IPL 2022 will have a total of 74 matches including four playoffs. The next edition of the cash-rich league will follow the same format as in 2011 when IPL had ten teams. The 10 franchises will be divided into two groups of five each. However, each team will play at least 14 matches. A team will play each team in their group twice they will once face four from second group and one of them twice (who they face twice from the second group will be decided by a draw of lots).


Who was in the race?
Many companies were in the race of buying the two new IPL teams including the likes of Adani Group and Glazer Family (the owners of one of the biggest football clubs in England, Manchester United). 
 

Previously, it was also reported that the Bollywood stars and couple, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone are in contention but it turned out to be a complete rumour.
