Rajasthan Royals' (RR) star overseas batter Jos Buttler secured an unwanted record in the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Buttler, who was the best batter in the previous edition of the cash-rich tournament in 2022, struggled to get off the mark on numerous occasions in IPL 2023, and as a result, the Rajasthan-based franchise suffered a direct brunt of the right-handed batter's failure.

During RR's final game of the campaign against Punjab Kings (PBKS), Buttler recorded his fifth duck of the season which is the most by any batter in an IPL season. Kagiso Rabada sent Buttler packing on the fourth ball of the second over for a duck (0 off 4) to extend the star English batter's misery in IPL 2023.

Buttler also recorded a hat-trick of ducks in the IPL 2023 as before the clash against PBKS, he was dismissed without troubling the scorers in RR's match against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders.

The Orange Cap holder of IPL 2022, shattered the previous joint record of four ducks which was registered by Herschelle Gibbs, Manish Pandey, Shikhar Dhawan, Eoin Morgan and Nicholas Pooran.

Most ducks in a single IPL season:

Jos Buttler (Rajasthan Royals) - 2023 - 5 ducks
Herschelle Gibbs (Deccan Chargers) - 2009 - 4 ducks
Mithun Manhas (Pune Warriors India) - 2011 - 4 ducks
Manish Pandey (Pune Warriors India) - 2012 - 4 ducks
Shikhar Dhawan (Delhi Capitals) - 2020 - 4 ducks
Eoin Morgan (Kolkata Knight Riders) - 2021 - 4 ducks
Nicholas Pooran (Punjab Kings) - 2021 - 4 ducks

Despite registering five ducks in the completion, the swashbuckling right-handed batter aggregated 392 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 139.01 with the help of four half-centuries. In the previous edition in 2022, Buttler had won the Orange Cap after scoring 863 runs in 17 matches at a strike rate of 149.05 with the help of four fifties and as many centuries.
