Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli has become the first batter in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 history to complete 2,500 runs at a single venue, M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Kohli reached the milestone during his knock against David Warner-led Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 15.
No other batter has scored 2,000 runs at a single venue. The reason behind Kohli being far ahead of other batters in scoring runs at a single venue is that he has not played for any other franchise than RCB since his debut in the inaugural season. Kohli would have completed 2,500 runs earlier had it not been for Covid-19 pandemic outrange in the country due to which IPL had to be shifted out of India.
Opening the innings alongside Faf du Plessis, Kohli looked in great touch straightaway hitting South African pacer Anrich Nortje for two consecutive fours. He reached his half-century in the 10th over. He took 33 deliveries to reach the fifty-run mark. This was his 47th half-century in IPL.
In the next over, Lalit Yadav got the wicket of Kohli with a full toss. Kohli went for the big shot but was caught at the boundary by Yash Dhull. After Kohli's knock,
Kohli recently reacted to former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull's criticism of his strike rate. RCB suffered a mini collapse. Kuldeep Yadav took two wickets and conceded 23 runs from his quota of four overs to restrict RCB's total to 174/6.
"Yeah for sure (important anchor role). I completely agree with that, There are many people who because they have not been in that situation themselves, they look at the game differently," Kohli told Robin Uthappa in an interview for JioCinema.
"Suddenly when the powerplay is done, they will be like 'oh, they have started rotating the strike'. When you haven't lost a wicket in the powerplay, usually the best player comes on to bowl, you are trying to figure out what to do against him in the first two overs, so that you can get big ones in the last two overs of that guy and then rest of the innings become much easier," he added.
