Former Royal Challengers Banglore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli delivered a heart-melting motivational speech to the RCB women's team which has endured a rough start to the inaugural edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL). In a just over eight-minute video posted on RCB's official Twitter handle, Kohli can be heard motivating the women's team by narrating stories from his personal experience with the RCB franchise in the Indian Premier League. RCB women's team players and support staff listened to every word Kohli said with immense concentration.
While motivating the RCB women's team, Kohli revisited the time when he 'had no belief left' after his franchise Bangalore lost six successive matches in IPL 2019.
"It's been a challenging season for sure and for someone who has been at RCB for 15 years, I have seen many challenging seasons. I can kind of understand the pressure you guys must be feeling because there are a lot of expectations in big league tournaments but I think it's an honour as well. It's a privilege to have that situation in front of you," Kohli said in a video posted by RCB on its Twitter handle.
"We have been in a similar situation and I think it was in 2019. We lost six (matches) in a row and I clearly remember that after I lost the sixth game, we had a get-together in the evening. I walked in and I was the captain. I was completely gone and couldn't feel anything. I didn't recognise myself. I had no belief left whatsoever and I walk into the post-match get-together. The first person I see is AB (AB de Villiers) and I walk in and he walks to me and we stand face to face and all we are doing is (shakes his head), like we had never lost six matches in a row in our lives and we had played 15 years of international cricket almost together at the same stage," the former RCB skipper added.
Talking about the 2019 edition of the cash-rich tournament, RCB finished the tournament at the bottom of the points table. Under Kohli's leadership, the team could only muster five wins in 14 matches and ended up losing eight games.
