The camaraderie between two former captains of Team India - MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli - is unparalleled. Two of the biggest superstars of Indian cricket and champion athletes who have scripted numerous memorable wins for India and their respective Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises share a unique bond. Kohli has voiced his fondness for Dhoni numerous times in the past and when the opportunity presented itself for the two legends to re-unite, the duo spent a little time catching up.
Former RCB captain Kohli on April 18 (Tuesday) shared a heartwarming post on his social media handle that set the internet on fire. Kohli shared a picture with Dhoni and captioned it with two heart emojis, one red colour symbolising RCB and the other yellow, which is the colour of CSK.
After the game between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 17 (Monday), Kohli and Dhoni indulged in a lengthy conversation. Two former Team Indian captains shared a light moment after a tense game. Kohli was seen bursting into a laugh while Dhoni, who is not that expressive, also had a bright smile on his face.
In a 32-second video uploaded on Indian Premier League's official Twitter account, the two superstars of Indian cricket spoke to each other, the premise of which remains a mystery.
Recently, Kohli opened up on his bond with Dhoni and how the former India captain helped him during one of the toughest phases of his career where he struggled to perform up to his lofty standards with the bat.
"The only person who, apart from my childhood coach and family…genuinely reached out to me has been MS Dhoni," Kohli had said on the RCB Podcast.
"So, it (Dhoni’s words) hit home for me because I have always been looked at as someone who is very confident, mentally very strong, who can endure any circumstances and find a way and show us the way. Sometimes, what you realise is that at any given point of time in life as a human being you need to take a couple of steps backwards, understand how you are doing, how your wellbeing is placed.
"He reached out to me and you can rarely get in touch with him. If I call him on any random day, 99 percent he will not pick up (the phone), because he just does not look at the phone. So, for him to reach out to me…twice it has happened now and one of the things that he’d mentioned in the message while reaching out to me was that: ‘when you are expected to be strong and looked at as a strong individual people forget to ask how are you doing?'" he added.
